About the group:
The group was established in the spring of 2026 and meets Wednesdays from 12:00pm - 12:30pm.
Group Format
The group started by reading through the Gospel of Matthew, covering approximately half a chapter per session. They started with a synoptic Gospel to ensure all participants have a foundational understanding of the Gospel.
The group is led by two facilitators who share responsibility for guiding each session. They will ask a volunteer to open in prayer. Then the group will read the selected scripture passage and engage in a free-form discussion focused on key takeaways and reflections.
The final five minutes are dedicated to sharing prayer requests and praying as a group. Depending on time, either one of the facilitators leads the prayer or invites participants to pray out loud, as they feel led. Following each session, one facilitator sends a recap email that includes the scripture passage for the following week.
Group Beginnings
The group began when one facilitator noticed a coworker had a postcard with scripture at their workspace. This sparked a conversation about faith, which ultimately led to the formation of the Bible study.
Best Practices
Maintain a consistent meeting schedule to help participants plan accordingly.
End promptly to respect participants’ time and encourage attendance.
Encourage participation but don't put individuals on the spot.
Keep discussions centered on the core message of the Gospel, rather than purely academic analysis.
The ODNI team has been encouraged by the openness and vulnerability of participants, as well as the depth and authenticity of the discussions.
